Dover Coalition for Youth Updates

As the result of a recent Dover Town Hall meeting that discussed how the Dover area can help combat underage drinking, the Dover Coalition for Youth will be creating two workgroups to implement the ideas that came up. One workgroup will be the Coaches Workgroup. Coaches will be brought together to help the Coalition identify and create resources that can work with the members to undertake the underage drinking issue. The second workgroup will be the Parents Workgroup. This group will help the Coalition generate ideas on how to get parents more involved. This group will also develop a parental contract that will be distributed throughout the community. If you are interested in joining either workgroup contact Vicki at v.hebert@dover.nh.gov or by calling 603.516.3279.

On top of brainstorming ideas on how Dover can tackle the problem with underage drinking, a video by the Dover Coalition for Youth, featuring Kevin Brown was shown. In this video, Kevin is interviewed about the troubles he ran into with alcohol as a high school student. He explains what he lost as a result of underage drinking. The video can be seen online at http://vimeo.com/10755599, or you can request a free DVD by contacting Vicki at v.hebert@dover.nh.gov. Many people can learn something from Kevin Brown’s story. It has been recommended for such groups as sports teams, driver’s education classes, health classes, middle and high school students, parents, teachers, and coaches.
